Dear Bob,
The new 'capture' command is potentially very powerful -- I love it! My
comments below all pertain to multi-gif files, using Jmol application
14.3.10 (Nov 27).
Regarding 'capture "filename.gif" *SPIN* Y', or 'capture "filename.gif"
*ROCK* Y 30' my experiments lead me to conclude:
1. The playback delay between frames in the multi-gif file generated by
Jmol is a constant 0.1 seconds.
2. set spinY, supposedly degrees-per-second, is ignored.
3. set spinFPS (frames per second) controls the frames per degree
rotation in an unintuitive way: spinFPS/30 = frames/degree; or
30/spinFPS = degrees/frame. However these settings do not affect the
actual frames-per-second in playback, since the interframe delay is a
constant 0.1 second.
In my opinion, what are needed are independent and direct controls for
the frames per degree and the delay between frames during playback,
something like
set gifDelay
and
set gifFramesPerDegreeRotation (or gifDegreesRotationBetweenFrames)
Sincerely, Eric
