And because I wasn't aware of the problem when I developed the interface there would be needed a lot of changes needed. But the most important point would be the loss in user-friendliness.
Angel, your suggestion of using "_modelNumber" seems to be one of the more complicated ones because it is a composite number not directly available as atom property. Bob's suggestion of using the (undocumented?) "_modelIndex" seems to be the simplest one. It doesn't totally reflect what I am after because it is not working file-based but model-based. But currently there are no files with multiple models involved, so it would be sufficient.
