activitati derulate de LEAP si partenerii sai. Va avea loc lansarea celei de-a
doua editii a Ghidului de Angajabilitate - LEAP si a portalului de educatie

If war is the continuation of politics by other means, then Cold War politics
can be seen as a continuation of war by other means. This interdisciplinary
conference seeks to explore these means in the context of global encounters
between states and ?Blocs? as well as engagements with ?East? and ?West.?
Indeed, after the end of the Second World War, a new kind of ?war? continued
and expanded as governments and/or interest groups created and continually
reshaped institutions, media, popular culture, and various elements of social
and political life. Globally, these broad-based transformations took place in
the shadow of Cold War politics, especially as expressed through rhetoric of
threat and mutual annihilation. In particular, cultural phenomena shaped by
Cold War power conflicts take on myriad forms in a host of geographic contexts,
both
in and outside the Bloc, from iconic public representations to distinctive
media advertising, memorable political speeches, world expositions, spy novels
and films, and a plethora of official and popular modes of expression. In some
places, of course, military or paramilitary conflagrations translated Cold War
politics into ?hot? wars, which further fueled the fire of Cold War

Together and apart: divided cities Summer School

The 2010 ISSRPL will be held in (and compare) two Mediterranean cities:
Nicosia, Cyprus and Jaffa, Israel. Both are ancient cities Cyprus was populated
in the Neolithic period, when Jaffa was already a thriving port�and both are
in successor states to the Ottoman Empire. Both are characterized by ethnic and
religious diversity, contestation and conflict. In the case of Nicosia, this
led, with the Turkish military intervention of 1974, to the physical division
of the city and the displacement of its populace (with Turkish Muslims moving
to the northern part of Cyprus and Greek Orthodox to the southern part of the
island.) Jaffa, a mixed city, saw its Palestinian population flee and expelled
in 1948 to be replaced by both refugees from other areas of Palestine and, at
the end of the Israeli War of Independence (what Palestinians refer to as the
Nakba), the settlement of large groups of Bulgarian and North African Jewish

television of the last decade.
Despite its status as one of the most commercially and critically successful
film and television genres of the 21st Century the Biopic, and its recent
resurgence, has received relatively little scholarly attention; Carolyn
Anderson and John Lupo in the introduction to the 'Journal of Popular Film and
Television?s special issue on Biopics describe the form as an ?overlooked,

Ethical Food Movements in Postsocialist Settings

Under state socialism, the state attempted to organize and regulate the
production, distribution, and even consumption of food. In fact, the
distribution of food was used as a mechanism of social control and moral
education. Meanwhile, the state was itself judged by citizens on the quality
and quantity of foods provided through the socialist food system. Often found
to be wanting, the centralized food systems also gave rise to underground
economies and informal exchange networks, sometimes linked to
organized resistance. The pivotal role played by food in the political projects
of, and reactions to, state socialism continues to inform both the expectations
and moral values of citizens and the practices of the state during the
contemporary period of postsocialism and neo-liberal reform. In particular, the
sense of deception many postsocialist citizens experienced in the emerging
consumer society through the influx of global commodities
provides an interesting vantage point to examine cross-cultural practices of
ethical consumption. Thus, while in many cases inspired or even driven by
ethical food movements in the advanced capitalist economies, the practices,
discourses and meanings of these movements in postsocialist countries have been
profoundly shaped by the experiences and legacies of state socialism.
