Our Client has decided to adopt VMware technology to realize the many
benefits of server consolidation and virtualization.
The Client is looking to engage Consultant to assist with VMWare technology
subject matter expertise for assessing their current architecture.
Project responsibilities include:
. Subject Matter Expertise in VMWare Infrastructure, and have significant
technical architectural expertise with VMware ESX.
o Assist in designing, planning, and building a production VMware Virtual
Infrastructure with VMware ESX Server and VirtualCenter.
o Suggest and/or perform tests to validate operational status of the Virtual
Infrastructure and corresponding applications.
o Suggest and/or perform integration requirements (e.g. Backup and Restore
clients, Hardware Monitoring Agents, and Virtual Infrastructure monitoring
integration)
o Provide knowledge transfer sessions as required, including ongoing support
of the virtual infrastructure
. Experience with Backup and Recovery architectures in a virtualized
environment
. Service Levels and Business Constraints on operational architectures
o Development and Test environments
o Production environments
o Operational Practices and Procedures (e.g. Backup and Recovery)
. Capacity Management and related planning with VMware Capacity Planner
. Technology Integration and Systems Deployment
. General experience with IT operational processes and procedures
Desired Project Approach
Consultant shall use the allocated project time to address some of the
following Client requirements within the constraints of the engagement
period:
. Review The Bank's planned architectural design and configuration
specifications for servers, network, and storage for a VMware
Infrastructure.
. Review The Bank's planned security architectural design and configuration
specifications for servers, network, and storage.
. Review planning (and document as appropriate) the proposed Bank's VMWare
infrastructure (Virtualization Infrastructure, Virtual Center, Lab Manager,
View) .
o ESX server configuration
o Network and Storage Infrastructure
o Backup and Recovery
o Availability
o Data Integrity
o Security
o File Systems vulnerability
. Assess Operational Practices and Procedures (e.g. Backup and Recovery) in
the virtualized environment and provide recommendations as needed
o Production environments
o Patch management in the virtualized environment
. Knowledge Transfer in the form of one or more workshops
Deliverables
This engagement is expected to be directed by the Bank. Consultant is
expected to document the recommendations within the constraints of the time
and prioritization of work by The Bank.
Planning recommendations for VMware Infrastructure (Lab Manager, View
etc.)
An assessment report, which outlines any plan deficiencies and/or risks
along with proposed remediation and/or mitigations.
Identify potential areas to optimize configuration and improve
performance
Present an interactive workshop to facilitate knowledge transfer
