Having talked to a few hiring managers at Amazon and Yahoo (where I
work), this is likely the case.  All the big internet companies
(Google and eBay, too, I'm told) have this problem now.  They need
more people, but they want people who:

  1. have very specific skills or experience
  2. are very good

That's the way things are right now.
