 JOB DESCRIPTION:  Coordinates and leads the development and maintenance of 
applications.   Consults with customers to understand business problems and 
develops technical solutions.  Provides technical expertise on applications, 
technical tools and software.  Provides technical direction to customers and 
support staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Eight years of information technology experience OR a 
bachelor's degree and six years of information technology experience.  
Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more 
programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application 
tools.

 Preferred Qualifications
 The Application Developer must have strong technical skills, the ability and 
desire to stay abreast of new leading edge technology, and the ability to 
communicate effectively with a wide variety of customers (faculty, staff, and 
students).

Applications development expertise must include requirements gathering, design, 
development, and implementation of an enterprise wide web hosting 
infrastructure.  Experience designing and supporting a web infrastructure 
supporting a variety of needs with a wide range of developer skills sets is 
also required.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred.  Additionally the candidate 
must have the following technical experience:
- Substantial experience with web technologies, including Apache, J2EE 
application servers, PHP, ColdFusion, and CGI
- Solid understanding of HTML/XML, CSS, JS/DHTML, HTTP, SSL, and TCP/IP 
networking
- Programming experience with Java, PHP, JavaScript, shell, Perl, Python, and 
Cold Fusion for enterprise-wide deployments
- Experience with Web Access Management tools, databases, SQL, and LDAP
-  Five+ years of experience supporting above infrastructure as well as 
multiple web application servers and the installation of various web 
applications
- Three+ years experience with system administration in Windows, Unix, and Linux
- Ability to multi-task, manage, and deliver on-time multiple concurrent 
projects while also performing daily support and troubleshooting tasks
- Understanding and experience with various web authoring tools including 
Dreamweaver and Contribute
- Experience deploying and using web statistics programs, application 
monitoring and management software, content versioning systems, and multiple 
trouble shooting tools
- Team oriented with the ability to work with individuals at various technical 
levels and openly seek and receive input from various customers, colleagues, 
and management
- Strong verbal and inter-personal communication skills with the ability to 
gather customer requirements and design a strong technical solution that meets 
the business needs
- Excellent written documentation skills (MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio) 
producing detailed requirements, architecture, and maintenance documents
- Additional experience including Web Services, XSLT, web-based collaboration 
tools, Content Management applications

Responsibilities
- Work effectively with management, project leaders, peers, and customers 
through project plans, requirements documents, architecture proposals, and 
deployment
- Design, document, and implement new highly available web hosting environment
- Support large group of content producers and web developers with various 
skill sets
- Collaborate in the evolution of web hosting offerings which serve 200+ sites 
with utilizing a wide range of web technologies, including support for 
enterprise applications
- Lead enhancement of web analytics provided to customers
- Analyze the needs and goals of content producers, identify high impact 
offerings; lead development and implementation of the support offerings
- Provide technical guidance to the web community on the development and 
management of web sites, by authoring content for a knowledge base
- Participate in integration of the Google Search Appliance into Emory's web 
presence
- Maintain, enhance, and keep current all web technologies
- Develop easy to use web administration and development tools
- Participate in a 5 week on-call rotation supporting 24x7 web services
- Remain current and knowledgeable of industry technological advances, their 
uses and their readiness for production deployment

 Compensation
 Min Hourly   $28.44              Mid Hourly   $39.97
Min Monthly $4930.00      Mid Monthly $6928.13
Min Annual  $59160.00        Mid Annual $83137.50

This is an Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid a salary on a 
monthly basis and are not eligible to receive overtime pay.
