ABOUT KNOXVILLE/OAK RIDGE
*http://www.knoxvillechamber.com/*<http://www.knoxvillechamber.com/>

Knoxville is at the center of the eastern half of the United States and
within one day's drive of three-fourths of the U.S. population. Surrounded
by four national parks, including the Great Smoky Mountains, and spread out
alongside the Tennessee River, Knoxville offers an array of outdoor
experiences. In addition, Knoxville is home to the University of Tennessee,
a 550-acre campus which enrolls more than 26,000 students and 234 degree
programs. The metropolitan Knoxville area was recently ranked the "best
place to live in the United States and Canada" among cities with a
population of fewer than 1 million. The ranking came from the Millennium
edition of "Places Rated Almanac" published by IDG Books Worldwide.
Knoxville's overall cost of living, assisted by low taxes and low utility
charges, is among the most reasonable in the country. Home buyers everywhere
in the Greater Knoxville Area benefit from housing prices that are lower
than the national average, as well as low taxes and low utility bills.
Electric power rates here are among the lowest in the nation. The Tennessee
Valley Authority, a publicly owned utility, is headquartered in Knoxville
and generates much of the electrical power used in homes.
