The Jewish Museum, NY seeks a freelance programmer to maintain the CMS,
website, microsites and blogs; also work with Museum staff to improve sections
of the site and build special digital features.
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Freelance Programmer

DEPARTMENT: N/A
SCHEDULE: Approximately 30-35 hours a month.
STATUS: Off-site, Independent Contractor (preferably NYC area)
REPORTS TO: Creative Director for Digital Projects, Curatorial
Affairs
Digital Marketing Manager
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
* Responsible for maintaining custom CMS, website and associated
microsites and blogs
* Work with website hosting company, consulting firm, and temporary
project programmers
* Work with museum staff to maintain and improve CMS, website and other
digital publications
* Undertake key server maintenance at appropriate, low traffic times
* Be on call to address critical fixes
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
* 3+ years experience in:
* HTML5 (best practices, SEO, semantic use of tags, newest features,
browser support)
1 JavaScript & jQuery
2 CSS (best practices, newest features, browser support)
3 MySQL (including knowledge of changes included in newest version,
workbench)
4 PHP (oop & procedural),
5 SVN (version control)
6 Photoshop (basic skills)
7 Flash & action-script
8 SFTP
9 command line, server settings (Linux), levels of permission, php
settings, MySQL settings, configuration files, and .htaccess
* College or graduate degree in computer science, digital media or
related field
1 Creative, self-starter, team player; must be able to work
independently, provide guidance and know when to ask for direction
2 Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and carry
projects through to completion
3 Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical
staff and other resources
4 Some evening hours and weekend hours required
