A new class LocalDate is currently being developed which fulfils the same role as YearMonthDay. Internally it has a better implementation which allows it to return values for era, week, dayOfWeek, dayOfYear, etc.

My current intention is to add LocalDate, but not actually deprecate YearMonthDay. All documentation would reference LocalDate, so over time people would move over toLocalDate.

(LocalDate will have 90% the same methods as YearMonthDay so conversion will be simple)

The same theory applies to LocalTime and TimeOfDay.

The alternative strategy would be to change the internal implementation of YearMonthDay, but I believe that to be more risky, and would certainly break serialization.

Opinions on this are welcome as always.
