There are two possible 'solutions':

a) Use joda-time v1.2, where TimeOfDay and YearMonthDay have dedicated 
factory methods to copy the field values from Date and Calendar.

b) Work out what version of the Olson time zone rules are coded in your 
version of the JDK, then download the matching data file and recompile 
joda-time using the matching time zone rules. Note that you will get the 
'incorrect' older JDK rules, but at least the two will be fully aligned.

There is no perfect solution to this without Joda-Time being part of the 
JDK.
