Probably not, but it might. With Joda-Time I have committed to no backwards incompatible changes in the public packages (as indicated by javadoc) until 2.0. That means no changes to interfaces. One solution would be to write a static method that takes a ReadableInstant and converts it to a DateTime, checking using instanceof internally. More broadly, the interface ReadableInstant is only intended to enable interoperation between different implementations. That's why it doesn't have many of the methods on it you might expect. Its just unfortunate that it doesn't have toDateTime(). There is the potential to add this in a future 2.0 release, if that ever occurs.
