1981 had to be the best year for slasher flicks of the decade. That
year produced "The Burning", a personal fave that I watched last nite.
A slasher flick set at summer camp isn't/wasn't what you would call an
original idea but it was well done.
It seems (this) camp was blessed with a sadistic janitor named Cropsy.
Having all they could stand, some of the guys decided to get even by
scaring the s__t out of their tormenter. The joke goes horribly wrong
(imagine that) and Cropsy is burnt to a crisp. After a few years in
the hospital Cropsy gets out...disfigured to say the least, looking
for some payback.
It's an all-star cast...80's hottie Leah Ayers, Jason Alexander
(George from Seinfeld) and Holly Hunter. Some cool music by Rick
Wakeman (Yes) and a nerd Alfred that was in "Fast Times at Ridgemont
High".
The scene in the canoe with the hedge clippers is an all-timer.
Just about as good as it gets...........
4 of 5 stars.
