if you issued the command
ifconfig
what is the output that you get ?
if everything is ok, you should see something like
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:11:34:9C:C6
inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Bcast:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:1618482 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1149796 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:256410534 (244.5 MB) TX bytes:1301692185 (1241.3 MB)
Base address:0xac00 Memory:fe9e0000-fea00000
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx P-t-P:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1492 Metric:1
RX packets:147191 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:129895 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
RX bytes:154243503 (147.0 MB) TX bytes:20020196 (19.0 MB)
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address you have
in the eth0 you should get private IP, and since you are connected to
a modem you should get something like (10.0.0.x) or (192.168.1.x).
that is Jordan Telecom modems subnets.
and ppp0 should appear since you are using (PPPoE) connection. in this
one you should see a public IP not private.
do you have these things in the (ifconfig) command output?
