Thanx guys, the thing is i got this old laptop, and i thought of trying to discover what net install is all about. It is quite old (Pentium III), and so getting it extra peripheral h/w isn't worth it. I didn't wish to use TFTP because it took me 4 days to set things up here in the office with the dhcp, dns and whatever other servers. To be honest, i only vaguely understand what goes around and wouldn't want to touch them ever again as long as they work. I'm not an admin, and only wish to do the minimal amount of administration work needed to get the job done.
I guess i'll find me another network to mess around with (probably my home network!!), where if the internet connection is lost, i don't have a gazzilion people glaring at me and demanding their internet connection while sharpening the forks and lighting the torches!! Another question that crossed my mind. Here at work i have 4 Ubuntu machines, and whenever i want to update the packages i need to d/l the entire update from the net, is there a way to make one of the machines act like a package cache for the rest? Thanx for the help and offers.
