well, at first it's not a new OS, it's now about 11 years old. maybe you won't need, but other people might do, the thing is, Linux, FreeBSD, Beos, Zeta ... etc. they are all Unix based, and they replace Unix. Don't windows users need something to work like windows, but Free. Also this project has a very big added value for the Open Source Community, most of the developers in this project, are also developers of WINE, which a lot of Linux users use, (or use a derivative like Crossover or Cedega), and what can be a better knowledge for emulation, than to try to make it.
And, yes it's not a good start for Linux, but it might be a good start for living the free software philosophy.
