Hello Guys,

Sorry for saying that, but don't get so exited!!!

I don't know if you know that already, but lots of computer manufacturers
nowadays ship PCs and laptops accompanied with some sort of a Linux distro,
this include big names like HP, Fujitsu Siemens, Acer, etc... . Usually the
company will ship a Linux CD / DVD with the machine but will not pre-install
it " or guaranty that its compatible with the hardware", I've seen some PCs
and laptops that come with Fedora Core, FreeDOS, or an Acer custom made
distro called Linpus, I my self got my Acer TM laptop "which I bought 2
years ago from a computer shop at gardens " pre-installed with Linpus but
this Linpus is useless, it can not do any thing even in run level 3, looks
like a very reduced Linux distro that is able to start up and shutdown only!
on the other hand the laptop came with a CD containing all its M$ Window$
drivers !!
This is not a way with which computer manufacturers support Linux and free
software, this is only a way that enables them to sell cheaper hardware
without paying or forcing their customers to pay the M$ tax, of course for
an average consumer "especially in this part of the world" the destination
for the this shipped Linux CD / DVD is the trash can, and the destiny of the
computer will be the installation with a pirated M$ OS.
The only hardware vendor that support Linux on it's desktops and laptops
that I know of is Dell, they signed a deal with Canonical, and they now ship
desktops and laptops pre-installed with ubuntu 7.10, there is an option when
buying these machines that you can buy also a 1 year system support directly
from Canonical, but for a price that no body in the Linux community will be
willing to pay ( $125 for basic support, $275 for standard !!)

Salaam,

Abed
