1) Do NOT grovel. Never say you are too stupid or that we are too smart. Ma fi da3i lal tathalol. We work with each other out of mutual respect here. 2) There is no such thing as a stupid question. All questions are welcome. However, we do encourage (sometimes force) that you read the manual first. 3) Installing Linux is _never_ considered an easy procedure. Specially for firs timers, I know I screwed it up a few times myself. I say this to emphasis my first two points.
Now about your question, It really depends on your setup. Do you have files you want to backup? Do you want to consider future expansion? Dual boot? Do you have Multiple hard disks? You said you want to completely remove XP, and I will assume that you have one hard disk only: 1) Place the CD into the CD ROM drive, and reboot your machine. Make sure to change your boot order, so that you boot up from the CD. 2) Once you boot up into Live Ubuntu, double click the "install" icon 3) Choose language for the installer 4) Choose appropriate timezone 5) Choose appropriate keyboard layout, most probably you will leave it on the default value 6) Enter the user information you want for your account 7) This is the only tricky screen in the installer, but since you don't want XP, just choose the option "Erase entire disk". This will automatically delete all parititions, and set up Ubuntu on your harddisk. BE WARNED: this will destroy ALL information on your harddisk. Be absolutely sure you want to do this before you do it, and ALWAYS backup your information before you install. 8) click the "install" button, wait for the installation procedure to finish, and enjoy your brand new linux installation.
