hi all,

does anyone have an idea/hints on how to do user accounting on linux. in
addition to the "acct" package which does the process monitoring, i want to be
able to monitor per user traffic usage and cut it off, or shape it, if needed.
also security issues per user, how can i monitor erratic behavior?

basically what i'm asking is how do shared hosting servers do it?

what i have till now is:

- "acct" for process accounting
- setup disk quotas to stop disk space abuse
- probably run php as cgi such that i can have process accounting per user
- mod_security for application level security
- im looking into iptables per user currently, any ideas?

any idaes/hints are welcome, thanks.
aram
