Hi, The Jordan Open Source Association <http://jordanopensource.org> organized the first meetup for Open Source developers, users and supporters in Jordan. The event, organized primarily to be a launchpad for social networking in the Jordanian FLOSS community and to strengthen the connection between individuals, companies and the Jordan Open Source Association, aimed to regroup the Open Source community in Jordan in order to discuss problems and difficulties in spreading Open Source in the country and what are the most appropriate strategies to be taken to alleviate them.
Different Open Source "geeks" from different organizations (students, developers, managers) participated in the meetup. A bright future for Open Source adoption was expected. Me, Laith Zreikat (co-founder of Jeeran) and Kefah Issa (freesoft.jo) had some speeches about Open Source/Free Software philososphy, the need to an organized and strong community and the need to more events like Open Source Camp. Laith Zraikat also talked about how Jeeran switched from proprietary technologies (primarily Microsoft's) to Open Source alternatives like Drupal.
