Ken, SF; you know. Miss is a major secret to the general populace. They
think her top 40 hits are her and they don't even begin to show who she is or
what kind of a songwriter she is. She is like a sweet secret that only a few
of us have discovered. I was lucky. My friend Phillip turned me on to her
when I was just about to leave home for the first time. "Better Days and
Happy Endings". To this day it is my favorite album of hers though they are
all good except "Emergency" which sucked but I think the company put her up to
that one. I love Joni, there's no denying it, but I am an even bigger MIssy
fan. She touched me where no one else ever did. Strange, I listened to the
song you mentioned a thousand times but never realized it was Joni and Laura
she was talking about. Not at all familiar with Laura except hearing her name
tossed around when I was digging Janis, my all time favorite. It is just like
Melissa to give praise to someone else, like she did Joni in that song. That
tune is also one of my biggest favorites. The bittersweet tone as she sings
"what a fine time I'm having". Damn. I used to play Better Days constantly
when I was in love way back when, so much that my lover hated her. The line
in "happy endings" --"cause when it stops, I'll be gone". It did and I was.
"I got eyes" and "this lady's not home today>"
I got most of them in the bargain bin. What a talent, what a lady, what a
friend. Here's to you Missy.
Hey Ken, thanks for posting. Later, Mack
