It seems to me a strategy for getting *some* sales out
of an album that otherwise isn't selling at all.  The
diehards already have DED, but will buy a rerelease
with extra goodies.  Given the minimal costs involved
in such a venture (no new recording/production costs,
merely the actual manufacture of new discs and
probably some minimal marketing), it would almost
surely bring in a small profit, which would be more
than the disc is bringing in now.  Especially because
they could then restore the higher price point.
