Hey Mary, I bought this on your reccomendation and it's wonderful! I found the liner notes by Peter Schickele (PDQ Bach) about his arrangements to be very interesting. One of the things I've always loved about the original 'Noel' was the simplicity and classic sound of the arrangements. No syrupy strings or choirs overpowering the songs. Really beautiful. A classy record all the way around. The only quibble I have with the reissue is that they cut a bit of solo harpsichord at the end of 'What Child Is This'. That was always one of my favorite parts of the original and it's gone from the remaster. Oh well! I can always play the original if I want to hear that. It's really a small thing. > > Kathleen Battle and Christopher Parkening do a great CD "Angels' Glory". it > doesn't have "the bells" on it though. Oo, I don't have that one! I do have Kathleen Battle's 'A Christmas Celebration' and I love the sound of her voice. Her version of 'O Holy Night' is to die for! I'll have to look for 'Angels Glory'. Thanks for the tips on both of these, Mary! Mark E.
