This is interesting - I went to several Tori Amos concerts this year, and 
Rufus Wainwright opened. I was close enough at one of the shows to really 
watch his playing, and I noticed that in the song California (no, no Joni 
content there) there is a transition where he goes from an Fm to an F (if I 
remember correctly) with a few strums of fully open standard tuning in between!
I thought it was cool how it didn't sound discordant in the context of the 
song.
