> Just got back from the airport and dropping off Yael's CD of Patty Griffin's > 1000 Kisses and a Jonifest 2002 CD Set to her. She let me borrow the Patty > one the other day and I love every song on this record.
Speaking of Patty Griffin, last night I managed to catch a rerun of the Austin City Limits Songwriters Special that was taped a couple of years ago. Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Buddy & Julie Miller & Dave Matthews, all sitting on the stage trading songs, playing & singing with one another. It was awesome! Dave Matthews performed a couple of songs from the then unreleased 'Everday' accompanied only by his acoustic guitar and they were gorgeous! I have to say that I saw Patty Griffin a few years ago open for Lucinda Williams and I wasn't that impressed with her. But last night I really enjoyed the sound of her voice. She & Julie Miller both have a way of going straight for the heart. Very soulful & beautiful singing voices. Patty sang backup on one of Julie's songs & it was very haunting & beautiful. And of course Emmylou is always awesome. She & Dave's duets on 'Gulf Coast Highway' and 'Long Black Veil' were so beautiful.... And I still contend that Buddy Miller can play anything that has strings. I'm so glad I caught this show because I had only seen part of it before. It was stellar from beginning to end.
