call me tortured,but i'm going to have to third mia and donna on "off night backstreet." it is one of my favorite cuts from DJRD. i have always thought the music to the song was incredibily sexy, and those lyrics... " you bring me such pleasure, you bring me such pain, who left her long black hair in our bathtub drain ?" and don't get me going about those stunning vocals, joni is the best at vocal phrasing. even from the beginning joni has had a jazz sensibility to her vocal phrasing, i'd even go as far as to say that her music in general was influenced by jazz at the get go. another sexy song to me is " blue boy." alright so i'm a glutton for pain but what a beautiful song. i'm especially moved by the last few lines "...here he comes after midnight to find her again, he will come a few times more ,till he finds a lady statue standing in a door..." chilling, to say the least. well i'm going to go have a good cry.
