I guess a really good song for that, one which really caught my ear on Austin City Limits, was sung by Nanci Griffith. I'm not sure of the exact title, but it goes:
When I die I'm going to catch a black bird's wing And I will fly away to Heaven Come some blue, blue bonnet (?) spring. It's a pretty song. Judy Collins's "Amazing Grace" would be my first choice.
