A brilliant song, my own take on it is that it's not "about" anybody in particular, but rather like so many of Joni's songs is more of a pastiche of people, times, and images. Although I do have to say I can relate to this lyric: "Grow up!" I cried And as the smoke was clearing he said "Give me one good reason why" Bob, growing older but not "up" NP: Smashmouth, "Your Man"
