Thanks for your "rant", Brenda - your points are well-made and you have forgotten more about the biz than I'll ever know. I guess I'm thinking about Tom Waits & his relationship with Epitaph. They treat him like a king, and because they're smaller he doesn't have to be a major unit-shifter to make a profit for them. He hasn't had to step up touring to support his projects, and he's remained prolific and innovative. And the packaging is creative to boot. You're right about Joni...she's too vain to book a tour of small halls, so she complains about playing in stadiums. She complains about the treatment she gets from the majors but she doesn't seem to want to be a big fish in a small pond either.
