I was watching VH1 Classics cable station the other night. They were doing
"Doubleplay Tuesday."
Right after two great videos from Patti Smith's "Dream of Life" album, I
almost fainted when I saw Joni looking great and strumming and singing "Big
Yellow Taxi" from "Painting With Words and Music" (which I still haven't
seen in its entirety). Then, the real shocker. A video for "Underneath the
Streetlights" from Wild Things that was erroneously titled "Streetlights."
It was Joni (with an '80s Debbie Harry haircut), Larry Klein (looking very
very young), with band, basically making eyes at each other while they
strummed and she sang. At first the vocals were out of sync with the
movements of her lips. But then it got it together and made me appreciate a
song I never noticed off my least favorite Joni album.
