It has been stated that the country is moving Republican because that
party claimed governor victories in Massachusetts, Georgia, and New
Jersey.

Massachusetts has not elected a Democratic governor since William Weld.
Georgia's Governor Barnes was a target of some interesting people
because of his treatment of the confederate flag over the state
capitol. New Jersey, well the Kennedy who lost, ran a lackluster
campaign by all reports, and has lost NJ races before (for congress).

Alabama's race is still out there, and from what I hear, the Republican
did in fact defeat the Democratic incumbent and will prevail in the
recount, if there is one. The surprise was that Alabama had a
Democratic governor to begin with.

However, the Democrats took statehouse from the Republicans in Michigan
my Michigan, in my native Illinois, in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and
Kansas. (Democrats took Kansas!)

The Dems gained a few governors. The GOP gained a few senators and
representatives. The differences were slight, just highly important for
their impact. But there was no trending from one party to another, just
slight movement.

This country was and is roughly 40% Republican, 40% Democratic, and 20%
who go back and forth. There were no signs of any movement of voters.
