Saw the movie twice tonight, yes twice, it is an incredibly fine film, very much of a LA Confidential feel about it - not surprising with not only Kim Basinger but made b y the same people - and it is very real to Detroit, very real to urban life, and the script is very well crafted, there a lot of very interesting touches in that film making that were quality, and that Em kid can act - his vulnerability and his holding back in some scenes was very gutsy. If I told you that Em makes a strong stand against violence against women, a strong stand against homophobia, would you believe me? If I told you that the scenes with his little sister are extremely touching (and very connected to his real life love for his daughter), would you believe me? If I told you that both shows I went to were sold out, and I had to go out of town because all the local shows were sold out, and if you want to have some clues where the kids are at today, would you go see it if I told you this is an excellent film - best one this year other than Y Tu Mama Tambien, which 8 Mile approaches in its utter honesty? If I told you that the message of the movie, loud and clear, is to work hard, work harder, for what you want to accomplish in life, would you believe me? No, I guess no one will, except maybe Bob Muller and Jerry. So you guys, go see it! Everyone else, well, you are missing one hell of a good film.
