I believe it was Kakki who pointed out that the woman is the late Anna Shorter, wife of Joni collaborator Wayne Shorter. Mrs. Shorter perished aboard TWA Flight 800.
The painting depicts a scene from Japan where Joni and her band were about to perform. Before the concert some of the group went out into the countryside and found a small herd of very friendly deer.
