yes i agree reuben, "judith" marked a change in judy where she started to sing more
flatly and a little passsionless.
but the albums up till then are what i'm talking about. assured, fearless and
groundbreaking. stong guitair strumming and a fierce altro. there is a lot of good
work there in those 10 or 12 lps.

and as for you billy... of couse you're right in a way. i do really like "tin
angel," especially the bleeker st. cafe part. its just that i'd wished she would have
fleshed it out a bit more musically. "for free" tho, i've alway had problems with.
even joni tacked on that "for a pretty good salary" bit because i think she just
couldn't sing "for freee eee eee" one more time.

so billy, i'm jealous that you call "new york tendaberry" your all time favorite. i
want to-- (its in my top 10)-- but the best? hmmm. very brave. i want to and i'm
jealous, but where does that leave "for the roses?" number 2, i guess, and i can't
deal with that either.

one more thing. how jealous am i of someone who is currently digging "eli" and
hasn't heard "tendaberry" yet? i can cut the suspense with a knife! the best friggin
album of all time, indeed.

please no more defending billy. please. just the mention of his name gets me
gaggin. when i'm in cvs and they start playing "bottle of red," there is no place to
hide. you will see a grown man cry. (ok ok i admit i have a "my life" single floating
around the apartment some where.)

and mariah...have you ever heard "daydream interlude?" i'm sorry, but its sheer
dance floor magic. a perfect 12." addmittedly thats an exception, but it is why i have
faith that she will do something good one day. she's got the chops. she just needs a
producer with taste.
