in a way the circle game is a song about the cd biz. Those one night stands shaped as circles, those poker chips that you forget the next day you bought them. "we can't return we can only look behind from where we came and go round and round and round..." - the artists being locked like a mad beast inside a plastic cirlce called cd's, unable to release itself from it, or from the industry which joni has decided to leave. the child in the song is the one who's free to dream, but he may only do so when joni sings. that's just my new way to look at why joni has chosen this song to end her recordings.
