That song was "You Don't Know Me" and yes, she really sang that song. She also did "heartbreak Hotel" or something like that towards the end of POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE. Meryl can sing, there is no doubt about it. Why would she audition as Evita Peron for EVITA if she can't? (maybe Faye Dunaway?). She sang a stirring a capella version of "Amazing Grace" in SILKWOOD. Hearing that song in the context of what happened to Karen Silkwood is hair-raising.
