Kate, I take your point. But just as we're ordinary people grappling with this, so is the American administration. They have access to more information than we do, that's all. War IS primitive, but so is this situation. You have a madman holed up in a country who won't leave and who's supported by a few hundred people around him who may cause massive bloodshed if he's attacked. Seems to me you can do one of two things: 1) leave him in power or 2) use even more force than he's got and use it fast.

It's a hostage situation, except that it's a whole country he's holding, and he's not going to call down for pizza.

I'm still not convinced there will be a war as such. I hope and believe American forces will invade and the Iraqi people will surrender. There will be a shooting match between Saddam's guards and the Americans, and what happens then will depend on who has access to the weapons of mass destruction and whether they'll use them -- and I would guess not because the Iraqi opposition groups have their contacts there and I'm hoping assurances will be given to these people, that they'll get safe passage out of Iraq so long as they don't resort to those weapons.

. . . as ordinary people, i don't think any of us have the real info at our
fingertips to be able to solve this problem either way..

war is such a primitive way of achieving the goal of bringing peace to the
world...
