I love "The Hissing Of Summer Lawns" (THOSL). For me,
it's amazing on many, many levels. Eclecticism is
blowing all through it at gale force. (One might say,
Eclecticism "runs all through [its] circuits like a
heartbeat".) The level of songwriting is very, very
high and consistent.

Her singing was never better or more interesting and
the musicians are also varied and excellent. Some
pieces flow into each other and some stand starkly in
contrast to the previous track.

As others have already mentioned, some of the stories
are very cinematic. Other songs, like "Sweet Bird"
are so anti-cinematic, so internal, so cerebral, and
metaphorical, that the listener is forced to invent
their own "film" on the spot. In spite of the
eclecticism on so many levels, it hangs together as a
whole, like a perfect, favorite, Christmas ornament.

Like the Bible, it doesn't give up all of its secrets
on the first "reading". Yah, I'd say THOSL is an okay
album.
