I know exactly what you mean, Ron. So many times I've had a Joni lyric just pop into my head at the strangest moment, almost on an subconscious level, and it tells me how I'm feeling, almost like a compass point for my emotions. Lately it's been "jealous lovin' will make you crazy if you can't find your goodness 'cause you've lost your heart" from Just Like This Train. I sing it to myself, just that one line, under my breath sometimes, when I'm alone, cooking or cleaning or being domestic. I think that line applies to a few things I've been feeling lately. I'm a jealous person when it comes to love and I know the pain it can cause. I'm trying to work on that! Other times it's a fun melody of Joni's like, "night in the city looks pretty to me, night in the city looks fine..." when I'm feeling upbeat and boppy. so do other people also get this??? that joni lyric that just sits there in your mind. when you driving you think about it, when you sitting on the bog, basically all the time its there haunting you, driving you to tears at strange times when the sheer beauty & genius of her writing just gets down into your heart. for the last couple of weeks or so its been "Im travelling in some vehicle, sitting in some cafe, a defector from these petty wars that shellshock love away" just thinking how much these lines apply to myself, to people ive driven away, to people ive known. its scary how much harm and hurt is done over such petty little things, where people just fight over such petty things. i just get so mad and so upset when i see people manipulating people into destructive situations, just to get a petty victory, with no clue whatsoever of the long term relationship damage they are inflicting. then they sit & whine saying "so & so never visits me anymore,,,,, oh shame poor me" mary chapin carpenter also puts it pretty nicely "you can have it, i dont want it, when youve got it, ill be gone" man, i love music, what would i do without it..... especially joni... ron np - steve earl - fort worth blues (stunning!!!!!!!!)
