My mom and her family was raised in rural Ohio, in Greentown, which is very near Canton (which is northeast). Mom and her family were definitely not ignorant (although for some reason they insisted on calling green bell peppers "mangoes"). There does *seem* to be quite a bit of ignorance in them thar Ohio hills, but really, ignorance is everywhere. (As Lama reminded me, it's "breathtaking ignorance" ...) Lori descended from a whole lotta PA coalminers (I wonder if that's why my family thinks it's perfectly okay to blacken their lungs with ciggie smoke?)
