In that case Rusty, why don't we just do away with the Joni-only list and exercise our little deleting fingers till the cows come home? Oh, and why do people complain about spam all the time? Just delete! What's the big deal?
The principle of the thing is this: the Joni-only list was created for people who choose to focus in on Joni-related discussion. It's plain, it's simple, and gee, do we not have that right? No one has suggested it's the end of the world. What we are trying to tell you -- some of us politely and nicely, some not -- is that we would appreciate it if people would respect our decision to have a list that does not include posts about politics, economics, and all those other equally interesting facets of life in general. We can join other lists for those conversations. Okay? Yes, sometimes it is confusing whether to put the NJC tag. Right now, for instance. There is no Joan content in this post, yet if I put it in the subject line, the NJC list won't see this post which has to do with it specifically. And sometimes one just honestly slips up. That's not the same as someone deliberately posting their rants about non-related stuff -- and repeatedly, too -- while believing their action is all right because their opinion is fascinating enough that the lack of consideration on their part won't matter. It does matter. It's not life-threatening, it's not world-ending, but then neither is lack of courtesy and mutual respect. Yet it's something most civilized people try to incorporate in their behaviour.
