I've been listening to Amelia obsessively since I bought Travelogue -
I liked it before but I love this version. Can anyone tell me what
they understand by "Amelia, it was just a false alarm"? I understand
that it's a reference to Amelia Earhart, and courage in the face of
loss (or loss because of too much courage/wanderlust) but I can't pin
down the specific line "it was just a false alarm". Does she mean "I
got it wrong again?" As in: "Maybe I've never really loved/I guess
that is the truth/I've spent my whole life in clouds at icy
altitude/And looking down on everything/I crashed into his
arms/Amelia, it was just a false alarm." A kind of "Send in the
Clowns"? Did anyone see Shirley MacLaine perform that? Anyone who
has a soul should see her sing it.

Most heartbreaking Joni lines:

"I wish that he was here tonight
It's so hard to obey
His sad request of me to kindly stay away"
