hi >>>>hell >>>>After posting about the state of the music getting air-play these days, and the strength and beauty of Joni's lyrics, I thought it would be interesting to see some examples of artists who we think "should" be more widely known. I've got to know artists here that I would never have otherwise known about, for example, Jonatha Brooke, Willy Porter, Ani Difranco (although those last two might be the influence of one particular lister)!
So who are some "unknown" artists, that we should know about? I'll start the ball rolling, by putting in a big plug for Dave Dobbyn, a NZ singer-songwriter. He's very well known here, and has had a number of "hits" but I think he deserves a much wider audience.<<<<<<<< i must say that ive learened far, far more about music via the internet than any other medium ever. trades, samplers discs, & recomendations - together with some analysis/recomendations of the music have pointed me in directions i would never have gone - even to the extent of having to order in from overseas 'cause the music just never was released here. and in that vein i would like to post the following review: "An early contender for the album of the year, this selection of country blues and hip hop tunes add up to what White describes as 'Redneck Brigadoon'. An extremely quirky work that flips between gentle numbers and raunchy hillbilly beats, it should come packaged with the accolade 'Warped Genius' on the cover." ***** (Five Stars) - The Independent" the album is jim whites brilliant one - "no such place" (havent heard his others yet - but will be soon) available from david byrnes label - www.luakabop.com its a great album. (deep breath & here goes ) kind of like a ryan adams - with talent, depth & originality (sorry - i just dont get ryan, or whiskeytown). ron np allman brothers band - 1973-06-10 (i dont know the song name) ps - Hell, - arent you grateful to our wionderful sa cricket team who cant count & thought theyd won against sri lanka only to find out that they hadnt - by one run - & instead let NZ through to super sixes round?????? :-(
