Anne asked: "OK, so 'fess up. Who else is/was a Joni wannabe?"
Hi Anne, great question! I actually wanted to be Joni before I ever
discovered who she was. As a young teenager, I stole my brother's acoustic
guitar and taught myself how to play from songbooks. I've always rebelled
against the herd mentality like Joni did. I even have long blonde hair
(hi-lited now with shades of gray). At the age of 18, because of an
unplanned pregnancy, I also walked down the aisle saying to myself "I can
get outta this." Being a singer-songer writer to me was the absolute
highest personal achievement one could ever reach.
I did not discover who Joni was until I was 24, and when I did I was
completely blown away!! She had the life (and talent) I've always wanted (a
bit of jealousy perhaps?) and never will.
I'm also about the same age as Joni's daughter, and when I found out she had
made contact with her little green I thought: Maybe it is a mistake, perhaps
my own parents adopted me, and I am really Joni's daughter. How absolutely
twisted is that? I once saw a similar scenario in one of Gary Larson's Far
Side Cartoons. It really made me laugh!
