My suggestion is to go to the book store and read a chapter in each.
Most cover the same basics, but some read better to different people.
I also look for examples that I can use in the book.

If Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP is your lowest common
denominator, you'll have to drop to CSS2, possibly even CSS1 (if they
have their browser set to "Compatibility Mode" it will emulate
IE6!)...
This totally depends on what "all browsers" means to you.
