I wonder if you need to start tracking MariaDB as well as MySQL, as MariaDB 
is begining to gain extras over MYSQL.

So far I've not found any changes that mean writting SQL in a different way 
to get better results, but there now seems to be an independent JDBC driver 
for MariaDB so I guess things may change in the future.
