Hi, STIR is not the only telecommunication use of JOSE. JWS, JWE, and JWT are essential in protecting singling in 3GPP 5G core networks as well as between 5G core networks. JWE, JWS, and JSON Patch are used to protect HTTP signaling (HTTP/2 has replaced Radius and Diameter) traffic between 5G core networks in a way where transit networks can only read part of the information and where changes made by the transit network are securely logged. 3GPP relies purely on X.509 certificates and does not use JWK.
