Hello michelle and others, I think we are not supposed to take eucharist out to sick people or others who are disabled unless otherwise authorised by a priest. In normal cases priest themselves takes the holy communion to the sick and disabled if we request them. Or else they can authorise the nuns to do so or even the lay persons (but i'm not sure about this part ).
But there is no way we can take the holy communion out on a presonal initiative as stated by michelle. This is the living BODY AND BLOOD of christ which requires utmost love and respect which only the priest are ordained to handle. Think what could happen if all the lay persons start handling holy eucharist like this. The question is would u let any one take charge of ur heart other than qualified and well experienced doctor ? I think holy communion is much more important than that. So my point is that what ever the motive is we should not encourage or do such things. These are my presonal feeling about this matter. But I think we should go for the official teachings of the church regarding this matter to get more clarity about this. Im looking forward to fathers (priests) to comment on this matter.
