Duncan, Sorry, I was testing with jQuery 1.1.4 so I didn't see the IE error. In IE it's important that the property being animated (in your case 'left') has an initial value. You can do this with a style sheet (#newsticker div { left: 0 }), but I will patch the code to assign that value automatically like I do with the other transitions. Good catch! I noticed that same blank slide behavior when clicking next/prev during a transition. I'll have to fix that. Stay tuned.
