Jörn, I've just realised that you're the author. Congratulations on a really great plugin! I was midway through my own validation power-plugin when I discovered yours - and I'm TOTALLY impressed! So much so that I shall consign mine to the scrapheap.
It's great that you can override the error element like this. I've checked and it works great. But unless I'm mistaken, it's missing from the validation options documentation!
