FWIW, I can confirm that getJSON() works fine in Safari 3.1 over HTTPS. I'm using it to call the AIM presence API w/no problems.
Hmm...I have code that works flawlessly for me on all browsers, plus Safari non-SSL, and fails only on Safari over SSL. Something weird is going on - I think I was testing in Safari 3.0, maybe that is the issue?
At any rate the OP should test all the popular browsers before launching anything in production.
